Sub Domain vs Sub Directory

Hello All,

I  am stumped on a decision. My company has a domain www.samplecompany.com. My team (which is somewhat separate from parent company)  is a development team which is now working on building a web site to market  the application we develop. This web site has to be apart of the parent company (thats the way they want it) but it is being hosted on another server (my team is hosting it). As far as accesing the site, we have some options that I can think of:

Option 1: Host the web site in www.samplecompany.com/appname
This would require redirecting the page to a subdomain

Option 2: http://appname.samplecompany.com (unfortunetely already in use)

Option 3 http://appnameplus.samplecompany.com
This looks a bit weird or too long to type...

or other options that I cannot think of.

What is the best method with the little information I have provided?

Solution: Sub Domain vs Sub Directory

Could you not just do option 1, redirecting, together with Option 3? Then, it's accessible from both sites...
