HP PSC 500 printing black only.

I have two computers that are set up to share an HP PSC 500 (printer, scanner, copier).

The printer that has the HP PSC 500 attached can print fine, but the other PC can print ONLY in black.

Both PCs are running Windows 98.

Why can't the other PC print in color?

Solution: HP PSC 500 printing black only.

The driver is definitely the key as the color data is all built by the printing PC before it is sent to the sharing PC (this also means that this isn't really a networking problem ;-) ). That said, there are two possibilities :

1) The wrong driver is being used (which shouldn't be the case if you installed the printer by pointing it at the sharing PC since the 98 driver would be passed over the network to the sharee). Check the "Print using the following driver" field under the respective printer properties as it may have been accidentally changed, for example.

2) The settings on the driver have been changed to print mono! Most colour printers have this option...
